In February our store, Fox Fine Jewelry in Ventura, CA gave away 200 sterling silver necklaces to people who lost their jobs or their homes. The response from the media and public was overwhelming. So that week I assembled a group of 46 nationwide jewelers. Together we gave away about 4,600 necklaces.
Many people walked away with their new necklace around their neck and hope in their heart, demonstrated by our act of kindness. But many people, people who still had their jobs, came in asking how could they help. And so I created Share Ring, a national necklace that symbolizes sharing. It is a sterling silver circular pendant with the words Hope, Strength and Unity on it. It is a necklace that is meant to be given away.
Across the country, jewelers have agreed to give away a minimum of 100 necklaces to people who´ve lost their job. Unemployed people bring in identification and proof of job loss (an unemployment check stub or a letter of termination), and they receive two necklaces, one for themselves and one to give away. So at this difficult time, an unemployed person will not only receive a gift, but be able to give also.
People fortunate enough to have jobs do not qualify for a free necklace, but may purchase them, and they are encouraged to buy multiples to give away to family, friends, co-workers, people in need, or people who have done a good deed. Manufacturers are supplying the sterling silver necklace at cost, so we are able to sell Share Ring for only $19.99 each. Necklaces are available for purchase from participating jewelers and at our Share Ring web site, http://www.sharering.org .
All profits from necklaces sales, 100%, are donated to charity.
Wearing Share Ring reminds us to consider ways in which we can give, whether by donating, volunteering or doing simple acts of kindness. Giving Share Ring symbolizes the unity we share as a country: that as we all shift our perception to “what can I do” and “how can I help,” we will make ourselves stronger as a country, united together.
You are invited to join us: as a participating jeweler, as a gift recipient, or by purchasing necklaces, for yourself and to give away!
In Unity,
Debbie Fox
