Hiroko Yoshimoto
Hiroko Yoshimoto was born in Japan and became a US citizen in 1976. She has a BA and MA in art from UCLA and continued her studies in Florence, Italy at the Art Center College. Since her studies, Yoshimoto has exhibited her art internationally, with active exhibits in California, Colorado, Tokyo, Austria, and New York.
Yoshimoto has displayed her art in many notable galleries and museums, and some were the results of merit awards in art competitions juried by important artists and galleries. Aside from doing many solo shows in places like the Carnegie Art Museum of Oxnard, CA, Ventura County Museum of Art and History, LA Artcore Gallery, Palo Alto, and four Tokyo galleries and museums, Yoshimoto has shown in many other public venues and private galleries.
Not only is Yoshimoto active in the art world, but she also participates in visual and performing arts in the community. Since 1996, she has taken on the roles of visual art director for the Ventura Chamber Music Festival, stage set and costume designer for multiple opera productions, and holds visual art advisory board positions at the Museum of Ventura County and the Community Memorial Art Collection. She also taught art to students at Ventura College for years but has since retired and focuses more on her exhibitions.
Yoshimoto was also one of the founders of Studio 83, an artists’ co-op group which was in operation for 16 years and for the Ventura College Friends of the Arts, a non-profit art scholarship fundraising organization. Through this, she has shown her art to raise money for students pursuing art.
