Purely Portraits: Art Show featuring Galina Richardson & Sandy Treadwell
Art Reception: Saturday, May 16th 6 - 8 PM Show runs from 5/14 - 7/5
Galina Richardson was born in Russia, where she worked as a translator. It was there that she met her husband when she translated for his company for five days. After he left, he called her neighbors (because she didn’t have a phone) and wrote her letters. Her job sent her to Houston for a project so she could see him again and the rest is history! Once Richardson moved to the US, she worked in graphic design and then for the FBI. After eleven years, she left to focus on her art. Now, she creates breathtaking portraits in oil, pastel, watercolor, and charcoal. Richardson loves capturing human emotions in her portraits, their subtle expressions reflect the inner feelings while the soft colors demonstrate the femininity of the subjects.
Born and raised in New York, Sandy Treadwell moved to Ojai to be closer to family and enjoy the more rural environment. This was something he was no stranger to- he spent his summers on his family’s small dairy farm in upstate New York. While living in New York, he worked as a reporter and later as New York Secretary of State. Treadwell took up art on little more than a whim in 2014 when he signed up for an art class. Within ten minutes, he discovered he had a real talent and affinity for art. Not just the teacher and the model were blown away- he was too! He continues to explore his love of “living landscapes” through his work in charcoal. Treadwell often works lifesize and is an Ojai Studio Artist.
