Knots are generally placed between each pearl to give beauty, definition and security, although pearls can be strung without knots or even occasional knots.

Heavy beads or beads with sharp edges cut through silk quickly. For these, we recommend a stringing wire.
We have many options for silks and wires. We match the color and weight as close as possible to your beads or pearls. This will give you the best look and longevity of wear.
Silk weakens over time, so if it’s been several years since they’ve been restrung, they probably should be restrung.
You can also check for gaps by gently nudging each pearl to see if it moves between the knots. Gaps collect skin oils, lotions, and dirt, further weakening the silk and causing breakage.

For longevity, pearls and beads should be professionally cleaned and restrung every few years.
At Fox Fine Jewelry, all stringing includes careful cleaning of every pearl and bead before stringing.
We photograph, describe, and insure your jewelry at take in. Stringing is done on premises, and your jewelry is stored in a bank-style vault

" Cannot praise them enough! I had my vintage squash blossom re-strung and cleaned and I couldn’t be happier!"
Knotted pearls that are stretched out have space between each pearl. When we restring them, they will be perfectly tight, with each pearl right up against the knot. Therefore, even though you have exactly the same number of pearls, your strand will be shorter. How much shorter depends upon the number of pearls and how loose they are.
