Platinum jewelry repaired with gold
Many jewelers repair platinum jewelry with gold instead of platinum, because they don’t have training or equipment to properly work in platinum. Instead they repair a platinum piece with gold, contaminating the platinum. This makes the area weaker, and the metal is a different color.
If your platinum jewelry has been repaired with gold, we can remove it and repair it properly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Fox Fine Jewelry can resize your platinum ring. Our sizing service includes polishing, and tightening every diamond or gemstone.
If your ring is stuck on your finger we can cut it off - it's complimentary! After your finger size normalizes, our sizing experts will help you select your ring size, and our jewelers will size your ring so it fits you comfortably.
Like all rings, platinum rings can break or bend if they receive impact. However, platinum is very malleable, and our jewelers can repair most out-of-round, bent, or broken platinum rings.
Platinum develops a patina over time with normal wear and tear. This happens more quickly than white gold, which is more scratch resistant than platinum (although white gold is not as durable. See Platinum vs White Gold for more information.).
If your platinum ring is not as shiny as you'd like, we can polish it so it looks new again.
Fox Fine Jewelry can hand engrave your choice of engraving pattern onto your platinum ring. We also restore worn engraving on heirloom antique rings, including ones that have been worn for generations.
Our prices start at $90 to repair platinum jewelry. Our jewelers are platinum repair experts, and work is done on-premises in our Ventura, CA workshop.
For your security, your jewelry is described, photographed, and insured and locked in a vault.
Repairing a platinum ring is usually more expensive than repairing a white gold ring. But because platinum is so durable, you’ll need to repair it much less often. More on white gold vs platinum.
Every time a white gold ring is touched, a microscopic bit of gold wears away. Over the years, prongs wear away and need to be rebuilt or replaced.
Every time a platinum ring is touched, virtually no metal wears away. Typically, you'll get decades or generations of daily wear before you need to replace the prongs.
We restore many rings - rings that some jewelers say can not be repaired.
Sometimes the ring is so worn that the supporting metal structure is not strong enough to support the needed repairs. In those cases we recommend a replica, using your diamonds and gemstones. When we inspect your ring, we’ll tell you if it can be restored or should be remade.
We restore and replicate platinum jewelry for clients across the country. Please contact us for information.
Platinum repairs require a high level of expertise and specialized equipment, including a laser welder. Laser welders are expensive, but allow a jeweler to fuse metal instantly, giving seamless results when done properly.
