How much is it to size a ring?

At Fox Fine Jewelry, the cost to size a ring begins at $84. Here are factors that determine ring sizing cost.

Men's rings in different metal types, including white gold, yellow gold, platinum, two tone, and a black contemporary metal

Metal type

Silver

Sizing a silver ring costs almost as much as gold. Silver conducts heat quickly, so extra care is needed to protect gemstones.

Gold

White gold rings cost slightly more to size than yellow or rose gold. Sizing removes the rhodium plating ("dipping"), so the ring must be replated to restore its bright white finish.

Platinum

Platinum costs more to size than gold because it’s the most difficult precious metal to work with. It requires specialized training and equipment, and should always be repaired using platinum—not white gold.

Contemporary metals

Contemporary metals (such as titanium, cobalt, and zirconium) generally cannot be sized. In some cases, we can enlarge a ring by removing metal, or reduce the size with a metal insert.

Number of stones

Sizing changes the curve of a ring and can loosen prongs. At Fox Fine Jewelry, we tighten the prongs on every diamond and gemstone. Rings with more stones require more tightening, which increases the cost.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"From the moment I stepped in to Fox Fine Jewelry, my worries about sizing my ring melted away! They check and tighten all the prongs for the diamonds on your ring. They also take pictures of your ring, and insure the diamonds upon intake. It made me feel very assured about leaving it there.

I picked up my ring and it fits like a glove. Thank you to all at Fox for a wonderful experience. I would recommend them to anyone!!"

Size difference

Sizing up or down? Sizing up takes more time than sizing down and requires adding metal, so it costs more. Sizing down is less expensive.

How far up or down? Smaller size changes cost less. Larger changes are more difficult—and some can be nearly impossible. Fox Fine Jewelry is known for successfully sizing rings with dramatic size changes that many jewelers won’t attempt.

Ring width

How wide is the back of your ring?
Narrower rings cost less to resize. Wider rings require more time and additional metal, which increases the cost.
